Videos- Another Loss For The Detroit Red Wings

After a nice start to the season, things are slowly going the other direction for the Red Wings.

They lost their third consecutive game Thursday — after winning three of their first four this season —  in Calgary, 5-1.

The Wings have lost the first two games of this three-game western Canada trip, which ends Friday in Edmonton.

In an effort to ignite a moribund offense — with exception of the high-scoring first line — coach Jeff Blashill juggled his forward lines and split up the Tyler Bertuzzi, Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha top unit.

Special teams have extinguished the Detroit Red Wings, rendering that hot start a cooling memory.

They surrendered three shorthanded goals while squandering their own man advantages Thursday at the Saddledome, slinking off with a 5-1 loss that looked uglier because it followed a 5-1 loss at Vancouver and a 5-2 home loss to Toronto. The loss to the Maple Leafs can’t be pinned on special teams, but the Wings blew 97 seconds with two extra skaters against the Canucks while allowing 3 goals short handed, and looked bad again against the Flames.

“The big story to the last two games is that probably more than anything else,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “When you’re always playing from behind, those are momentum killers. We have to find a way to one, score on the power play, and stem the goals against on the PK.”
