Michael Rasmussen Back On The Road To The NHL

from Max Bultman of The Athletic,

Not many specifics of his injury had been publicly revealed, but Rasmussen said Tuesday he had been dealing with a back injury. He didn’t want to go into much detail, but said it was “just a nagging thing” that he’s over now.

“It was tough,” he said of sitting out. “Definitely never want to be out, never want to be out that long. But (I) wasn’t feeling right, so just had to get better, get healthy and just excited to be back.”

Rasmussen can’t get that time back, and at this young age (he is 20), it’s a tough point in his career to be losing two months of a season. But fortunately for both him and the Red Wings, the 2017 first-round draft pick does still have time to make the most of the remainder of his second professional hockey campaign.

Prior to his injury, Rasmussen had jumped out of the gate in Grand Rapids with nine points in 10 games, including five in his first three. That was eye-catching after Rasmussen had faced a whole new level of challenges last season as a 19 year old in the NHL, where he played largely because the franchise felt he wouldn’t learn as much by going back to the WHL, which he had already dominated.
