from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

Lucas Raymond was nervous Sunday when he received a call to meet with Steve Yzerman on Monday.

“You never know what’s going to happen,” Raymond said. “I try to keep it positive, but also look at both sides. Like if it goes well, it goes well; if it doesn’t go well, then we’ll take it from there.”

It went well, as the Detroit Red Wings general manager informed the team’s No. 1 pick in 2020 (fourth overall) that he had earned a spot on the season-opening roster.

“He told me that I played good during the preseason, but it’s a lot of work still to do,” Raymond said. “Just because I made this opening their roster doesn’t mean I’ll be here the entire season. So, for me, it’s just to go out there and play good and prove myself and then take it from there.”

The first people he called were his parents and brother in Sweden.

“Of course, to play in the NHL has been a dream of mine since I started playing hockey at 2 years old,” Raymond said. “So, they really supported me and always helped me along the way. It’s really exciting for all of us.”
