Youngsters Are The Key To Detroit’s Rebuild

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

How quickly the Detroit Red Wings complete their rebuild and become consistent playoff contenders depends to a large extent on the impact of their top draft picks.

Defenseman Moritz Seider and winger Lucas Raymond, the first two first-round selections under general manager Steve Yzerman, are entering the league together, making their NHL debut Thursday against Tampa Bay at Little Caesars Arena.

They will be franchise cornerstones for many years if all goes according to plan. Adding their youth and talent to a team that has missed the playoffs five years in a row has created more anticipation for the 2021-22 season.

“That’s great for our organization and our team right now because I believe they make us better,” Detroit captain Dylan Larkin said. “They’re two great kids that are going to continue to work and elevate their game. They’re going to learn pretty quickly what the NHL is all about on Thursday night. You don’t know until they do it. They look good so far and I know Lucas and Moritz will keep working to ensure they’re impact players.”
