The Price For Marc-Andre Fleury

from Scott Powers of The Athletic,

There’s an assumption by many around the league that the Blackhawks will move Fleury this season. They’ll have to get his blessing and abide by his 10-team no-trade clause, but many believe Fleury will finish the season elsewhere.

If that’s true, the question becomes what could the Blackhawks get for Fleury. The common thought is probably a second-rounder because Fleury may be an insurance rental for someone down the stretch.

But with the way Fleury has been playing lately, two league sources said Monday that they think the Blackhawks could get a first-round pick for him. It would have to be the right situation, but Fleury might just be an option for a team that believes it can make the playoffs and could use an upgrade in net. Fleury would have to be seen as the No. 1 coming in to warrant a first-round pick. In that scenario, it would also make sense for the Blackhawks to explore the market well before the trade deadline. The Blackhawks may also have to eat some of Fleury’s $7 million cap hit. But if a team is willing to exchange a first-round pick, something the Blackhawks probably will be without because of the Seth Jones trade, Blackhawks interim general manager Kyle Davidson would probably be fine with doing that.
