Kyle Baun Gets Extension From Chicago
The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forward Kyle Baun to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday.
The extension is a one-way deal with an AAV of $625,000, reports Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston. It will pay out $600,000 next season and $650,000 the season after.
Baun was initially signed in March 2015 as a free agent coming out of Colgate College. He grabbed two NHL games before the end of that season and has seen another three this year. In those five NHL appearances he has yet to post a point.
This is his first full professional season and he’s put up three assists with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. In his final season with Colgate he managed 14 goals and 29 points in 39 games, which was the high-water mark of his three-year stint in the NCAA.
With how Chicago is constantly in a battle against the salary cap, the one-way deal should give Baun a shot to find an opportunity in Chicago’s bottom six in the coming seasons.
