Terrell Draude was hoping to catch lightning in a bottle this season with an immensely gifted Calgary Hitmen team. I followed the team closely to see how Travis Sanheim was progressing and every so often I’d see a glimmer of hope from Draude.

You can’t teach size and Terrell Draude has plenty of it to go around. He’s a bulldozer on skates, but could stand to work on his skating and edgework. He does exhibit above average puck control and tends to crash the net when he can. Albeit an inconsistent effort, Draude managed to put up 30 points this season – a 23 points increase from last year.

His shot is his biggest asset, and he puts all of his weight into it making it difficult for goalies to react in time. At this stage, Draude is very raw and will need to take a great deal of time and patience before he bears fruit at the professional level. Unfortunately, consistency has been his main issue all season, but I feel there is still enough in his game that – with time – could bode well for an NHL team that decides to take a chance on him.

Where Will He End Up In June:

Given his inconsistency, Terrell Draude would end up being a late round pick – either 6th or 7th.

Scout’s Honor:

“Draude continues to hang around on my list for a number of reasons, despite the continued concern of him always leaving people wanting more. He is a big kid who has all kinds of tools. A heavy shot, good puck protection and cycling skill, with skating that could be far worse for a player of his height and weight. While he has fallen quite a bit on my list over the last 3 months, he remains a player that intrigues me as a Dwight King type of guy and a good project for late in the draft.”
