Johnston Signs Two Year Deal With Habs
Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin was right when he said “You can never have too many defenseman,” as he signed free agent Ryan Johnston to a two year, two-way contract.
The 23 year old who took part in the Habs’ development camp last week (as well as being the nephew of the Pittsburgh Penguins head coach, Mike Johnston) had 14 assists and ranked tied for first in points (15) during his 38 regular season games with the Colgate University Raiders of the ECAC during 2014-15. He also picked up 26 penalty points and displayed a plus 12 differential. In his three seasons with Colgate University, Johnston has registered 40 points (five goals, 37 assists) in 110 regular season games, as well as playing two seasons with the Nepean Raiders of the CCHL, where he totalled 113 points (28 goals, 85 assists) in 114 regular season games.
With more depth to their system, it’s only natural to assume that Bergevin has something big on the way in regards to offense. Either way, hockey news is still exciting news.
