Could This Be The New Habs Sweater By 2017?
Yesterday, it was announced by TSN’s Rick Westhead that Adidas had won a long-term deal to make uniforms for the 30 NHL teams, beginning in the 2017-18 season. Adidas owns the sports brand Reebok, the company who is currently used for your favorite NHL players “shirtys” and jerseys. The jersey deal with Reebok pays the NHL about $35 million per season, but the new deal with Adidas would see the rights fee double. While both parties have refused to comment, there are rumors speculating that an agreement will be announced in mid-September.
While we should already expect ads making their way onto jerseys in the future, it’s still quite a shock for some fans who love the vintage, classic style jersey that they have always worn. We asked fans on Twitter what they thought of the Adidas stripes being placed on the Montreal Canadiens sweater to see what their opinions were:

Modifying a classic jersey has it’s pros and cons and despite the fact that a lot of fans may not like the new look, times are changing which means you should probably get out and grab an NHL jersey made by Reebok while you can.
