Daniel Paille Heading to Sweden Next Season
After a trying season in North America, 32-year-old Daniel Paille has signed a one-year contract with Brynäs IF in Sweden’s SHL.
Last summer Paille didn’t get an offer with a NHL club and settled on taking tryouts that didn’t materialize into anything either. He wound up signing with Chicago’s AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.
Then in late January, he was signed by the Rangers to a deal that would have him finish out the year in Manhattan. It wound up being an ill-fated marriage. He played just 12 games with the Rangers and failed to register any points.
He was then shipped down to their AHL club, where he spent the rest of the season. He didn’t play any postseason games with the Rangers either.
He was able to produce a little in the AHL and that may indicate that he’s still capable of contributed to a team in Europe. The former Stanley Cup champion will have a chance to prove that he’s still able to turn the wheel and aid a team in their quest for a title.
