Blues Sign Jordan Binnington to One-Year Deal

The St. Louis Blues have signed restricted free agent goalie Jordan Binnington to a one-year, two-way contract extension, according to the team. Binnington’s 2016-17 salary has yet to be confirmed.

Jordan Binnington, 23, appeared in one game, his NHL debut, with the Blues in 2015-16. He replaced starter Brian Elliot in the third period of a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on January 14. He allowed one goal on four shots.

He split time with Pheonix Copley, who was also re-signed by the team on Friday, as the Blues’ AHL starter with the Chicago Wolves this past season. Binnington posted a record of 17-18-3 with a 2.85 goals against average and .907 save percentage.

Binnington has put up strong numbers in the AHL since turning pro in 2013. That being said, with Jake Allen and Carter Hutton taking up two NHL contracts with the Blues, his path to the NHL will be difficult for the time being.

He will likely split time with Copley once again in 2016-17 with the Wolves.

The 6-foot-1 goalie has great quickness and awareness in the crease. That paired with his good technical skills should make him a good NHL goalie in the future. He has starting goalie upside at the next level.
