Carlo Colaiacovo Headed to KHL: Report

According to rsport.ru, former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo is headed to the KHL, where he will sign a contract with either Ak Bars Kazan or Sibir Novosibirsk. Both teams have import player slots free and Ak Bars Kazan head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov recently declared that the team is trying to add an experienced defenseman to their lineup.

The source claims that Ak Bars Kazan are the front runners to get the Canadian defenseman, who was a first round pick (17th overall) for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Colaiacovo never enjoyed the kind of success he was thought to be able to reach in his junior years, especially after scoring ten points in six games at the 2003 WJC in Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia. He also skated for Team Canada at the 2011 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia.

In the 2015-16 campaign, Colaiacovo scored one goal and five points in 36 regular season games for the Buffalo Sabres. He played for different other NHL teams in his career, most notably the Toronto Maple Leafs and the St. Louis Blues, where he had his most productive seasons in the NHL, posting a career-high 32 points in 2009-10.
