Toronto Maple Leafs Need a Reality Check
It’s been two weeks since the Toronto Maple Leafs were unceremoniously kicked out of the NHL bubble. That’s 14 days and still no answers for Maple Leafs fans. It just doesn’t make sense. This fan base has been sold a vision of a champion, even so far as a dynasty. But the team is not […]

Maple Leafs Can Either Be The Incredible Hulk Or Bruce Banner in Game 5
Did you catch the exact moment the Toronto Maple Leafs turned from being students of the game into big, raging beasts who smash anything? Are you confused? In my last article, Maple Leafs Blow Incredible Performance, I detailed how watching the Leafs’ Game 3 performance was reminiscent of watching the Incredible Hulk. The Leafs looked […]

Maple Leafs Blow Incredible Performance
Hi Kevin, I really like the Hulk references and I think they work well with how the Leafs played last night, but I think this needs more content and information as it's currently a little light. Your title describes this incredible performance that they blew but you spend little time talking about how well they played before the collapse. I'd like to see more content about that. And in general this just needs more content to strengthen it. Please see in-text notes of areas where this should happen. Thanks, Kyle.

Maple Leafs Desperately Need a New Goal Song
The Toronto Maple Leafs exhibition game against the Montreal Canadiens provided our first look at how games will be presented. There’s a lot of changes, from more camera angles to huge screens. But for all the changes, one thing remains the same in Toronto – the goal song. From the Jock Jams 1999 tracks that […]

Maple Leafs Understand the Sacrifices Being Made to Play
The Toronto Maple Leafs, along with 23 other NHL teams are headed to the bubble. On July 26, teams will be in the hub cities and in an effort to keep COVID-19 out, their hotels and facilities will be quarantined zones. No one in and no one out of these protected zones. It means every […]

Maple Leafs’ Offence or Defence – Does Sheldon Keefe Have a Favourite?
Imagine being the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Sheldon Keefe during this training camp. It might be hard to do, unless you’re a parent, with two or more kids. Although you’d never admit it, you’ve got a favourite. Don’t worry, it’s our secret. But for Keefe, who is his favourite: Team Matthews or Team Andersen? Related: 7 […]

Maple Leafs’ Offseason Advantages: Unfair Benefit or Model to Strive For
Few teams in sports polarize the fans the way the Toronto Maple Leafs do. In the NFL, it’s comparable to the New England Patriots. In MLB, it’s like the Houston Astros. You either love ’em or hate ’em. There’s another thing in common between these three franchises – bending some rules, and finding advantages. We […]

Maple Leafs’ Ilya Mikheyev is Earning his Nickname
There are common phrases Toronto Maple Leafs’ players use to describe Ilya Mikheyev. Depending on who you ask, you’ll hear things like: he loves hockey, he’s a hard worker, and he’s dedicated to his team. But without fail, everyone uses the same phrase: “he’s flying out there.” Which is an appropriate catchphrase for the one […]

Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews Up for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews gets a lot of TV time, as he should. He’s become a human highlight reel. However, there is a camera that rarely sees the 22-year-old — the penalty box cam. Matthews’ disciplined play has earned him a finalist spot for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Matthews has played 282 […]

Maple Leafs Divide the House to Conquer the Competition
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a divided team. Don’t panic. It’s on purpose, as the coaching staff continues to implement different twists during a camp that is anything but ordinary. “It’s a little unconventional,” says head coach Sheldon Keefe,” but this is not a conventional camp or a conventional time, so we have to adapt […]

Maple Leafs’ Sheldon Keefe Wants Defensive Improvements
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe was not mixing words about his team’s current state. From how in shape his players are, to how they were performing before the NHL stopped the season, Keefe has a lot of work to do. Maple Leafs Are Back and Everyone Is Talking About It
You can tell the fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs have missed their team and their sport. Despite all of the NHL teams starting Phase 3 of the return to play plan on Monday, the Leafs dominated Twitter discussions. Throughout the day, different Leafs were the top trending item in Canada on the social media […]

Maple Leafs’ Kyle Dubas Reappears With a Lot to Say
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Toronto Maple Leafs’ general manager Kyle Dubas, maybe longer than we thought. As the Zoom call started, a full-bearded, somewhat older looking man appeared on the screen. I’m not talking like Elliotte Friedman or Tom Hanks in Cast Away, but in the ballpark. Dubas, who traded in […]

Maple Leafs in the 2022 Olympics: Could be the Best of Times or the Worst for their Fans
As part of the Return to Play arrangement, there is a four-year extension to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It includes NHLers returning to the Olympics. This creates an interesting dilemma for Toronto Maple Leafs fans. Remember the Jerry Seinfeld bit? “You’re actually rooting for the clothes when you get right down to it… Fans will […]

Canada Day is John Tavares Day for Maple Leafs’ Nation
Happy John Tavares Day! Or happy second anniversary Maple Leafs and John Tavares – either way, it’s something to celebrate. For Leafs fans, it’s one of those moments that you remember how you found out, where you were and who you told first. I was mowing the lawn in preparation for Canada Day festivities. My […]

Maple Leafs’ Spezza Still Chasing Stanley Cup Dreams
The Toronto Maple Leafs got an incredible bargain when Jason Spezza signed a one-year deal for the league minimum, $700,000. Sure, his numbers aren’t where they were when he was beating up on the Leafs as part of the Ottawa Senators, but his knowledge, leadership and respect for the game far exceed his pay. The […]

Is Dubas’ Seat Warm if Maple Leafs Lose the Play-In?
It seems I kicked a bees’ nest when I opened the discussion about Sheldon Keefe’s job security should the Toronto Maple Leafs lose in the play-in series. While the article was meant to address the outside possibility, it also pointed out, as did people who commented on it, that as long as general manager Kyle […]
