There is only one goal in hockey. That goal is to win the Stanley Cup. You have to make the playoffs first though. There are no unrealistic expectations right now, today. We all know what's what. Tonight there will be plenty of clenching for sure, but for the most part, we are the cheering 19. Through thick and thin we all have our own opinions, we are not blinded by homerism, nor unrealistic aboot what's what. It's come to this. Up and down in the Wild Card slot until the last game of the regular season is played, and it will drive 19 of the best Fans the Wings have to date, completely nuts. Back to back, and on a major network usually means TRAP for these Wings. Plus the added dimension of facing our former Coach who knows a thing or two aboot his former players is going to pose one of the bigger challenges the Wings will face this Season. They better be prepared to out work, out muscle, and most importantly, out score the Leafs by as many goals as possible. The one thing Red Wing's Fans are waiting for is some semblance of consistency. We are in the home stretch of the season, and there are 19 of us that have been more than patient. No one wants to see their Team back their way into the playoffs, but at this point we are willing to take anything we can. With less than twenty games left it's going to be a tough row to hoe, but hard work makes it all possible. It's time to tighten up every aspect of our game and move forward. Don't look back. Coming together as a Team, and, with a bit of luck no matter who is sitting or playing on any given night will garner the two points.  Now it looks like Jimmah is our starter for the time being and as as Wing's Fans there are 19 of us that will cheer him on. We all know getting to the playoffs is something he knows how to do. We also know more scoring has got to happen no matter who is in the net. Rebuilding on the fly and remaining competitive is a daunting task and it puzzles me that anyone can complain about making the playoffs. It is beyond my comprehension. No. Really. Isn't that the goal or rather the first step? I'm have no delusions about a deep run, but getting in after playing 82 games is an accomplishment. And it sure is better than the alternative. At the very least it's four more games. Playoff games. The most intense, gratifying Hockey there is to watch. I have to wonder how fans would react if the Wings missed the mark. Maybe we should poll fans of the Oilers, Buffalo, Jets............ You know, just to get a feel for what it's like to miss the post season. I already know how awful that feels and I want no part of that feeling ever again. I know there are at least 19 other Wing's Fans that feel the same. It's never has never been aboot the " streak". Every game matters. Not just from here on in, but the entire season. The Wings are now in that dangerous position again. They have to put up enough wins to make the post season. I'm on the side that believes that getting in, even if we don't go all the way, makes a difference. I think Hunter S. Thompson said it best, "One of the most basic factors in sports is that winning becomes a habit, and losing is the same way. When failure starts to feel normal in your life or your work or even your darkest vices you won't have to go looking for trouble, because trouble will find you. Count on it. After Scotty Bowman took over as Coach in 1993/1994, he became the guiding force that developed the Detroit Red Wings into the big "Red Machine" in the second half of the 90's and beyond. The Red Wings had finally become the Team that the 19, and all Red Wing's Fans everywhere had waited for, all of our Hockey lives. A juggernaut. In the beginning it was Yzerman, Fedorov,  the Russian Five, the Grind Line, Shanny, Martin LaPointe, Joey Kocur, Dougie Brown, Murph, Lidstrom. With later additions like Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille. Just to name a few. But, so many of the very best games the Wings played were against the Avalanche. A Team as fate would have it, that had Patrick Roy as their goaltender. A player that always had the fire in his gut to beat Detroit. The Wings vs the Avalanche became a true rivalry, and, one of the best in all of sports history. It was a battle every single game. All the elements came together in the best and worst way possible. Both Teams were elite, talented, and tough. Watching this Alumni Game is a reminder of the rich history of the Team we cheer for, and why we are Wing's Fans. Of why we are Hockey Fans. Here's to Us vs Them. Lets Go Red Wings!!!!! The road to making the playoffs is hard enough without having to carry the added weight of players that are not getting it done. All season long the Wings have had a problem with scoring. Putting Pavs and Z back together is a move in the right direction, but, how do the Wings get more from our other lines? Someone needs to light a fire under these guys or whatever it takes to get them scoring again because too many players are simply not getting it done in all areas of their play. Lazy, lazy, lazy. Something's gotta give, and soon. And yes, missing Kronner and E-52 is hurting the Wings big time. Mrazek can only do so much and he does it very well, but scoring goals is not in his job description. Here's to hoping Blash has a couple of tricks and some kindling up his sleeve. Light that fire! With just twenty five games left in the season every game has to be a step forward. Game by game gelling as a Team, in effort, in scoring, in "D".  Not that winning every game is possible, but, getting it together, mental toughness, taking those important steps forward as a group has to happen if the Wings have any ideas of making the post season. Pavs and Z back together is definitely two steps forward for our Coach. It's a watch and learn for the up and coming youngsters. Maybe observing the two masters playing together will help Nyquist and Tatar get off the "schnide " as they say. Getting over a stinker of a game against the Islanders, and a game against the Bees that the Wings were happy/lucky to win. Our rookie goalie has a great perspective along with a wonderful sense of humor on that win. All steps forward. This is the fastest back to back I think I've ever seen. A real short time between games, and the Islanders are waiting to pounce. The Wings have a tendency to lay back and let the supposed tired Team come into our Barn and get the best of us, by fooling themselves into thinking it's an easy two points.  Sorry fellas. Nothing is easy in this league and there are 19 of us that have watched the Wings fall into that trap and get stung way too often. Any time you play against a Team you have a history with, it reminds you of all the good times that were had by one and all. Although those days are long past, there's still an added excitement whenever the Wings face off against the Avs. The rivalry was one of the very best in Hockey with a certain amount of respect coming from both sides. Hard to believe it was twenty plus years ago when it first started. Where has all the time gone? This is one of the many times the 19 really miss our Chief.
