MacDonald spent last season playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens. The veteran of 133 NHL games found his way into 26 games last season for Hamilton, posting a record of 10-9-6 with a 2.77 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
He didn’t, however, find his way into any NHL games last season, with Vezina-finalist Carey Price and young Dustin Tokarski ahead of him on the roster. He last played NHL hockey in the 2013-14 season, when he made 11 appearances with the Calgary Flames, posting a .890 all situation save percentage.
MacDonald, who is 35, was something of a journeyman, playing NHL games with Calgary, the New York Islanders, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, and Toronto Maple Leafs, in addition to being a part of the Montreal Canadiens system last season.
Along those same lines, former NHL goaltender Jeff Deslauriers has signed a one-year deal with the Augsburg Panthers in Germany. Deslauriers played 62 NHL games in his career, spread over three seasons spent primarily with the Edmonton Oilers. He also played four games with the Anaheim Ducks in the 2011-12 season, the last time he played a NHL game.
