Martin Havlat Placed on Unconditional Waivers

St. Louis Blues forward Martin Havlat was placed on unconditional waivers Friday.

His professional tryout with the organization turned into a one-year contract exactly one week ago. Since signing his two-way deal, he scored one goal in two appearances, putting up three shots and an average ice time just north of 10 minutes.

His appearance on waivers doesn’t appear to be a performance related thing, as unconditional waivers more often than not requires both parties to agree to it. TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports that the placement of Havlat on unconditional waivers is in fact for the purpose of terminating his week-old contract.

He has left the team for personal reasons.

With his injury struggles and struggles to battle declining production in recent years, Havlat didn’t get a contract over the summer after the expiration of his deal with the New Jersey Devils. After not getting a deal and then having this termination, you have to wonder if we have seen the last of the one-time 30-goal scorer, who has posted 242 career goals and 594 points in 790 games.

The brief stint with the Blues puts him at six teams in his career, spending time with the Ottawa Senators, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, Devils and Blues.
