Bruins Claim Landon Ferraro
The Boston Bruins have claimed former Detroit Red Wings rookie Landon Ferraro off waivers, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.
The 24-year-old Ferraro was waived by the Red Wings on Saturday. He is just coming off an injury and the team’s forward group is full. They took the risk, deciding to return Ferraro to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins after a slow start to the year for Ferraro.
In the claim, the Bruins get a player who is in the classic Bruins mold, even if he’s a little on the small side, weighing in at just 186 pounds. He’s a pesky agitator, who has offensive upside and may fit in well with a Boston team who is having no trouble scoring this season.
The BC-native scored 27 goals and 15 assists through 70 games for the Griffins last season, playing just three NHL games, through which he had a single goal.
This season he’s played 10 games for Detroit and has yet to register a point, taking just 12 shots and averaging 9:33 of ice time per game.
While they waived him, losing Ferraro from the pipeline must be frustrating for Detroit. He hasn’t been able to deliver on his promise at the NHL level, but it’s clearly still there.
