Islanders Trade Taylor Beck to Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche have acquired Taylor Beck from the New York Islanders in exchange for Marc-Andre Cliché.

The minor-leaguers have some NHL experience as Beck has 11 goals and 12 assists in 87 career games, including two this season with the Islanders. The 24-year-old had 16 goals and 17 assists so far with the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

He was a third-round choice in the 2009 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators. Beck has experience playing on both wings and is on a one-way deal worth $875,000 that expires at the end of the season. The 24-year old will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

Cliché has played a total of 151 games combined between the Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings. The Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec native has played in 38 games this season with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage and has six goals and 13 assists. Cliché did have 17 goals in the 2011-12 season with the Manchester Monachs.

The 28-year-old was a second-round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers and has played in 379 career NHL games.

An interesting note in the deal is that Beck could appear against the Predators if called up.
