Detroit’s Joakim Andersson Heading to Sweden

Detroit Red Wings center and pending unrestricted free agent Joakim Andersson is leaving the NHL.

The 27-year-old center has signed a contract with Örebro in his native Sweden, the team has announced.

After getting consist time in the NHL over the last two seasons, with no time spent in the American League, Andersson played just 29 games this season, scoring one goal and three points. He spent another 19 games in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

He posted a -2.3% score-adjusted CF%Rel with -6% ZSO%Rel.

The team did turn to him in the postseason though, where he played all five games in Detroit’s early elimination.

29 games are the fewest he’s played since grabbing just five games in the 2011-12 season, when he broke into the league. In addition to seeing fewer games, he averaged just 9:01 of ice time when he was in the games. That’s a significant drop from 11:38 last season and 13:08 the season before.
