Katie Million Named WCHA Women’s League Commissioner
The Western Colligate Hockey Association (WCHA) has a new women’s league commissioner. Last Thursday, the league hired Katie Million as vice president and the third commissioner of the women’s league. Million replaces former commissioner Aaron Kemp, who left last February to peruse other opportunities. In Kemp’s absence, WCHA Men’s commissioner Bill Robertson finished the season as the Interim Commissioner.
Prior to being named the Women’s League commissioner, Million was an executive with the New York State Olympic Development Authority. According to a release by the NCAA, Million has a wealth of experience and has overseen six Eastern College Athletic Conference Men’s Hockey Championships and five NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Championships.
“I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next WCHA vice president and women’s league commissioner,” Million said. “I am very excited to work with the coaches, administrators and faculty athletics representatives at all of our programs, but most importantly the student-athletes that make up the top women’s hockey league in the country.
“I’m looking forward to visiting each of our prestigious universities, cultivating relationships, engaging alumni and building on the WCHA’s illustrious success. Drawing on my experience as director of events for the Olympic Authority in Lake Placid, I am excited to begin work on the league tournament – the WCHA Final Face-Off. I will do my very best to serve this Association and our student-athletes as women’s league commissioner and continue to promote, grow and build upon its rich tradition.”
The WCHA is the top Division I women’s hockey conference. During their 17-year existence, a team from the WCHA has won 16-of-17 Division I Women’s NCAA hockey titles.
