Domi Injured, Dineen Passes & More
Arizona Coyotes’ forward Max Domi has been placed on the injured reserve and is considered week-to-week, per head coach Dave Tippett. Domi left the Coyotes’ game against the Calgary Flames on Thursday after being bloodied in a fight against Flames’ forward Garnet Hathaway.
Domi, of course, is the son of the former Toronto Maple Leafs fan-favorite, Tie Domi. While his father wasn’t necessarily the skilled player than Max is, Tie Domi made a name for himself as one of the most notorious fighters in the history of the NHL. While Max Domi may have a set of skills that his father didn’t, the apple clearly didn’t fall far from the tree as he showed that he’s still able to drop the gloves and go toe-to-toe against any player in the league.
Unfortunately for the 21-year-old Domi, however, his actions have cost him a large portion of the season. The NHL is trending away from fighting, and playing a more skilled and composed game as Max typically does is the new direction the NHL is headed. Now, the Coyotes will have to try and fill the void left by Domi who scored 52 points in his rookie season last year and is currently second on the team in points with 16 points in 26 games.
Bill Dineen Passes Away at 84 Years Old
It’s a sad day in the NHL as Bill Dineen died at the age of 84. Dineen was a long-time player. Dineen was a star in the AHL, scoring 20 goals in four of his six seasons with Buffalo, Cleveland, Rochester, and Quebec. He also played 324 games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings – where he played with Gordie Howe and won two Stanley Cups – and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Dineen went into coaching following his career as a player and spent time with the WHA’s Houston Aeros for six seasons and was named the coach of the year in consecutive seasons in 1977 and 1978. Dineen then went on to coach the New England Whalers before coaching the Philadelphia Flyers for the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons. Dineen then coached the AHL’s Adirondack Red Wings for six seasons and won two titles in 1986 and 1989. H was inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame in 2014.
Thatcher Demko Recalled by Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks have recalled goalie prospect Thatcher Demko, Canucks’. Head coach Willie Desjardins confirmed the transaction Saturday ahead of the team’s game against the Florida Panthers. Jacob Markstrom is expected to get the start with Demko as the backup.
While Ryan Miller was at the game-day morning session Saturday, he didn’t skate with the team. In his place was practice goalie Bobby Segin filling in. Miller is currently dealing with an injury, prompting the Canucks to make a transaction to call up Demko.
The former Boston College Screaming Eagles goalie has played well in his first 14 AHL games of his career this season. He’s posted a 7-5-1 record with a 2.59 goals against average and a .909 save percentage in that time. Demko has impressed as of late, In his last six starts with the Utica Comets of the AHL, Demko has posted a 5-1-0 record with a 1.51 goals against average and a .946 save percentage. He’s also allowed two goals or less in each of those games. Injury or not, Demko certainly earned this call-up to get some time with the big club – whether or not he gets some game time is a different story, however.

Philadelphia Flyers Reveal Stadium Series’ Jerseys
The Philadelphia Flyers have revealed the jerseys that they will be wearing in their Stadium Series game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 15. While the Pittsburgh Penguins chose to go with an all-yellow look in their reveal last month, the Flyers took a different approach. The Flyers’ Stadium Series’ jerseys will be black with orange stripes across the arms, with black pants to match.
As is the case with every special event game, the jersey reveal for the Flyers’ Stadium Series game against the Pittsburgh Penguins was highly anticipated. Both teams delivered with their uniforms as well as two of the NHL’s biggest rivals gear up to play in a huge game in March.
– Gary Bettman believes that the NHL established the World Cup in a big way in 2016.
It was very successful. There are a variety of things that we’re focused on to do it even better the next time we do it, whenever that might be. I think people were pleased with it, understanding that it’s a very small part of our business, but we think it’s important when we can to focus on events like that.
