Who Are New Habs Charlie Lindgren and Tom Parisi?

Although most people are recovering from the weekend or trying to lose the pounds they’ve gained from all the chocolate they ate over Easter, Marc Bergevin has been working and announced the signing of two promising prospects from the collegiate ranks: goaltender Charlie Lindgren and defenseman Tom Parisi.

Although these moves are not the ones fans are probably expecting after this disastrous season, they shouldn’t go unnoticed. As we’ve witnessed with all the injuries the Canadiens have suffered this season, depth is never a bad thing, especially when it can be acquired without losing any assets. These two players both fill organizational needs; goaltending and left handed defenseman.

Who Is Charlie Lindgren?

Charlie Lindgren is an American goalie who’s been making a name for himself in the last year in the NCAA. The 6’3 goalie previously had a pretty subpar career in the USHL, which explains why he went undrafted in his draft year. His technique and play has really taken off in the past year as he started to find his groove with the St. Cloud State

Who is Tom Parisi?

Tom Parisi is a defenseman who’s an excellent skater and great stick work. He’s responsible as far as knowing when to pinch, and he will rarely be responsible for an odd man rush. Despite his 5’11 frame, he’s pretty strong and positions well. He’s smart at controlling the gap and forcing opposite players to the outside.

Parisi signed an Amateur Try-Out (ATO) with the St. John IceCaps and will play the remainder of the season with them.

Considering Montreal is rather thin on the left side at the NHL level (Markov, Emelin, Beaulieu, Barberio, Bartley, Bennett and Hanley), this signing can only help the organization for depth.

Given how these collegiate signings have been working out for us during the Bergevin regime (Daniel Carr and Mike Condon), it’s hard not to be optimistic for at least one of these guys to become a regular in the NHL.
