Scott Mayfield (#Isles)
2 yrs one-way @ $625,000 cap hit
2016: $575,000
2017: $675,000— General Fanager (@generalfanager) July 12, 2016
The deal will pay Mayfield $575,000 in 2016-17 and $675,000 in 2017-18.
Mayfield, 23, appeared in six games with the Islanders last season and registered his first career goal/point. Dating back to the 2013-14 season, he has skated in 11 NHL games.
He has played in 200 AHL games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and has tallied nine goals and 44 total points with a minus-two rating.
The 6-foot-5, 218-pound blueliner uses his large stature to his advantage. He is a sound stay-at-home defenseman who uses his size to win board battles and clear the front of the net. He has an active stick in his own end and has a long reach that can disrupt plays coming his way.
Mayfield will likely lineup in a bottom pairing and penalty killing role with the New York Islanders next season. This is his first one-way contract, which will likely lead to his first full season in the NHL. He plays a mature game for his age, which should make his transition to the NHL a smooth one.
The Islanders drafted Scott Mayfield with the 34th overall pick in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
